Welcome Mrs. Ruthann Bowden!

The Houston County Board of Education appointed Ruthann Bowden as principal of Centerville Elementary School at the May 30, 2017 called Board meeting.  She previously served as the school's assistant principal for instruction.

“Centerville Elementary is a special place where teachers are making a difference and students are beating the odds,” said Bowden. “I’m so honored and blessed to help keep moving this school in the right direction.” Bowden has been with the school district for 17 years. In 2000, she joined the teaching staff at Miller Elementary where she taught first and third grades for four years. In 2004, she transferred to Russell Elementary to teach fifth grade. After teaching fifth graders for four years, her final two years at Russell were spent teaching Kindergarten. In 2010, she was hired at Centerville Elementary as part of the leadership team.

After graduating John McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., she earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Fort Valley State University in 2000. She has also earned a Master of Reading and Literacy from Walden University (2007) and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University (2008).
